I wanted to shine some light on a beautiful mother-daughter collaboration here on Kaua’i. Their store Vehi Surf is a testament to the power of a mother who decided to support her daughter’s ambition.
When did you open your shop, Vehi Surf?
“We started October 2020 during covid. We wanted to open small and it’s still a small bikini shop due to the uncertainty that’s happening in this world.”
What inspired you to open Vehi Surf?
“It was actually my 15-year-old daughter Tavehi’s idea. She loves bikinis, what teenage girl who lives in Hawaii doesn’t? We talked about it for months and decided to go for it during COVID. My job as a mom is to support her vision and dreams! Tavehi came up with the concept, helps with social media, & we both work in the shop. We got most of our favorite local brands from Hawaii!”
What does Wahine Rising mean to you?
“To me, Wahine Rising means woman supporting woman. I’ve had total strangers support my shop over and over, which I appreciate so much! I’ve also dealt with other shops on the island who didn’t want me to succeed. So I really appreciate the community of women sticking together.”
