Staying Motivated: Exercise For ALL Bodies

Body love begins with caring for, accepting, and appreciating your body TODAY! One of my favorite ways to appreciate my body is to exercise daily. Even as our bodies grow and evolve, there are many resources for fitness for ALL bodies.

We all have our off days when it's hard to get moving, even with the exercise routines you love. However, I believe you should love the exercise you choose to do. I want you to look forward to doing it every day!

My body has experienced a lot of change over 53 years. As my body ages and evolves so has my daily fitness routine.

I have experienced my body as a 5-year-old swinging, running, jumping, and playing. As a competitive gymnast, triathlete and fitness professional. Through pregnancy, postpartum, nursing, premenstrual, and menopausal. To grow old is a privilege!!!

I believe in the positive power of exercise at every age, stage, size, shape, fitness level, time, and season of life.

The thing is… WE ALL CHANGE. Life Changes. This pandemic has been a crazy example of that. So it’s really important to keep adjusting, seeking, creating, and recreating your fitness routine. We have to be flexible and listen to our bodies ’ needs. Once we have a soulmate workout routine, we can stick to that through the twists and turns of life.

Overcome Your Excuses

Step One

If you’ve been in a rut or unmotivated with your fitness routine the first step is to check in with what you’re telling yourself.

What’s your story? If any of these sound familiar try replacing the BOLD PRINT statements with the following.

  • I don’t have time- I always find time to exercise & do the things that are important to me. I am working on creating a better morning routine. I set great boundaries with others. I honor my commitment to my self-care. There is no “perfect time” to start.

  • I’m not motivated- I always feel more energized and confident when I exercise. I am less depressed and anxious when I exercise. I want to live a healthier life than my parents do/did. I want to be a great example for my children.

  • I can’t spend the money- I am worthy of the time and money it requires to take good care of myself. I deserve good health. My good health is a gift to my family & loved ones.

  • I can’t find something I can stick to - I am looking forward to trying new times, classes, and exercises I genuinely enjoy.

Step Two

Take action and create a new, or improved fitness routine.

  1. Buddy-Up Make a call today! Ask your friends to walk, hike, try a new class, or commit to an online program. Find someone who has a similar schedule, interests, & fitness level.

  2. Discover Your Soul Mate Workout. This is where you may want to invest in a coach! They help you safely try different workouts and keep the variety flowing until you're hooked on something you love and can fly solo.

  3. Create a Routine that’s dominated by self-care. Do not give up. Habits are created through repetition!

Finding your “soulmate” workout just may surprise you. My beautiful friend and client Cyndi is a non-Swimmer and actually still is! She never would have considered a water workout until I suggested she try it.

To her surprise, she absolutely LOVES our private Aqua sessions! The water is easy on her knees - especially the one that has been replaced. She gets a full strength workout including jogging & jumping jacks. Even better, it’s at her pace and pain-free.

Hiking

Nothing feels better than hiking with good friends. It’s an amazing exercise, especially when you’re chatting it up with great life stories.

I am obsessed with my Nordic Walking Poles. (A gift I received for my birthday from my good friend Tanya!)

Walking is normally a lower-body-only activity, but with these, it turns into a full-body workout. Using these activates your back muscles. Less pressure on knees & joints, and 40% more calories burned with each step taken!

The best place to find the walking sticks I use and love is on Amazon!
